West Yorkshire Brass

West Yorkshire Brass is a brass band which was formed in 1986. Prior to the band formation many of its members were playing with the West Yorkshire Fire Service Band. However, when that band converted from a brass band to a military band many of the brass players found themselves out of a job.

As a result the brass players got together and formed a new band, namely the West Yorkshire Brass. Why West Yorkshire Brass?

All the members of the band come from all round West Yorkshire, from such exotic places as Upper Cumberworth, Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds, Wakefield and Cleckheaton!, so it was a fitting name for the group.

Over the years membership of the band has increased by word of mouth. The band ranges in age from mid 40s up to 80+ so you can see that we are not a youth band! We have, as they say, over the years been there, done it and got the 'T' shirt for it. We no longer attend contests. We are quite happy to rehearse weekly and we play a number of concerts each year, both locally and on the East Coast.

Apart from the full brass band we also have a 10 piece band who play concerts at local venues, mainly private functions.
