This page is part of an archive of historical details from existing or defunct brass band websites. This is being maintained to provide a record of this information in the event of a band folding, its website disappearing or other loss of the historical record. Where possible, and appropriate, the information cached will be updated from time to time - and any corrections or updates are welcome.

Knottingley Silver Band

The Knottingley Silver Band has been in existence since 1864, and currently consists of around 25 players. During its long existence, the band has always been an integral part of the local community and has been financially self-supporting without any benefits of sponsorship. We compete in the brass band regional championships each year in Bradford, and also undertake a number of other competitions, including March and Entertainment contests.

We have represented Yorkshire in the National Finals, the highlight being an appearance at the Albert Hall in 2000. The band also plays in a variety of concerts each year in many locations across Yorkshire and is available for bookings. We are always on the look out for new players, so if you are interested please get in touch. The conductor of Knottingley Silver Band is Dr Owen Wedgwood, an award winning soloist, teacher and instrument repairer from West Yorkshire.
