Gwernaffield Silver Band

It is probable that the Band started as a small group of individual players, coming together to play for special events round the villages of Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn at the turn of the 1900s. There is mention in the County Herald of 1899 that the Gwernaffield Brass Band played for the annual Sunday School Treat for children of the village.

Its history during the first part of the Twentieth Century was rather chequered, with periods of activity and disbandment. However, in 1971 the present Band was formed by Harold Curran and Jim Evans, under conductor Graham Jones, with tuition for learners run as an evening class. Since 1971 and to the present day the Band has been in continuous existence and has been active in contesting and playing in concerts and other functions.

The present Band has members drawn principally from the two villages of Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn with several players travelling from further afield. In addition to the Main Band, there are two groups of learners:
